Safe Neighborhoods. Good Roads. Low Taxes.

Yantis ready to work at CourthouseWelcome to the Fall 2010 campaign!

I’m thrilled & honored to be endorsed and funded by the Republican Party of Texas!  I got the news (and the check!) in the mail today.  Thanks to Jane Cansino & the SREC for all their support.  This is the second largest contribution to our campaign to date!

Yantis testifying for transparency & accountability before House Committee

Right now, I’m in Austin to address the House Select Committee on Special Districts.  I’ve been asked to talk about government accountability and transparency by the Committee Chairman, Representative Harvey Hilderbran (R) Kerville.

The San Angelo Association of Realtors endorsed me in July.  The Association interviewed the four candidates, three Republicans and one Democrat in the spring.  The 12 member selection committee unanimously selected me!  In addition, the Texas Association of Realtors’ Political Action Committee provided campaign funding for the campaign.

In other campaign news, I was asked last month by State Representative Harvey Hilderbran’s office to testify before the House Select Committee on Special Purpose Districts, which Hilderbran chairs.  I’ll be providing information on improving accountability and transparency in the governance and operation of special purpose districts.

Look for more major campaign announcements in the coming weeks!

I’ve been working hard for you during the County’s budget process this summer.  This year’s slow economy has forced County Commissioners to consider deep cuts in every department to keep from raising taxes.  Lower sales tax receipts coupled with mandated increases in spending on criminal justice (especially court-appointed attorneys) has strained the county budget severely.  I’ve attended every budget hearing and every Commissioner’s meeting for several months now & I’m ready to hear your ideas about all the issues facing Tom Green County.  We’ll visit more in the coming weeks.  Thanks for visiting our site!

We’ll need your input & your help to win in November!

March Primary Results:  Yantis Green 53.58% or 1,528 votes out of 2,852 cast!

Thanks to you, we won the Republican Primary outright and avoided a runoff. My opponents worked hard and ran good campaigns.  Now we are focused on November.  Keep checking back; we will update the website frequently and the blog will remain active. THANKS AGAIN!  :)

We need Commissioners who listen, are leaders & team players and can get things done; Leaders who put you first. I’ll be that Commissioner for you.

ELECTED to three terms on the Christoval ISD Board of Trustees

ELECTED to represent Tom Green County in four consecutive Texas Republican Party Conventions

ELECTED to the 2008 REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION as Delegate No.1 representing the 36 counties in Texas 11th Congressional District.

Safe Neighborhoods
Tom Green County Commissioners budget your tax dollars for the criminal justice system including the County and District Judges and their Courts, the County & District Attorneys, the probation department, the jail and the Sheriff’s department.  Commissioners need to ensure that the professionals who operate the justice system have the resources necessary to keep the public safe.

Good Roads
Tom Green County Commissioners oversee roads accepted by the court as part of the County road inventory.  Not all rural roads are maintained by the County. Commissioners have the difficult job of maintaining roads and bridges with the same funding formula that existed in the 1970′s.  County roads should be maintained for public safety and first responder access.

Low Taxes
The current Tom Green County Commissioner’s Court has done a good job of holding the line on spending and stretching our tax dollars a long way.  Commissioners along with city council members and school board trustees face the same types of unfunded mandates from the state and federal government.  Forced local spending, whether from Washington or Austin, gives local governments no option but to provide mandated services without money to fund them.  We must constantly work together to tell the federal and state governments in no uncertain terms that local governments and taxpayers need relief from over spending, regulation and taxation.
